Matt was born in England but grew up in Wales. He studied Geography & Anthropology at Oxford Brookes University where he joined, and learnt to fly with, the University Air Squadron. He loved flying but ultimately his love of food won over.
After studying at Leith’s, Matt trained as a chef under Marco Pierre White, Alastair Little, Bruce Poole and Sally Clarke. All very much food heroes of his.
Matt presents the BBC1 food show, ‘Saturday Kitchen’. He is also the presenter of its partner shows ‘Celebration Kitchen’ and ‘Best Bites’ on BBC2. Matt recently joined the MasterChef family as a host judge on MasterChef:The Professionals. Previous shows include Food Unwrapped (Ch4) Kings of the Wild (Discovery) and Market Kitchen (uktv).
He records seasonal food-related specials for BBC Radio Wales and his most recent project is a podcast for BBC Sounds - ‘Checkout Confessions’ - with guests such as Tom Allen and Fay Ripley.
He has written several cookbooks. (‘Weekend’ and ‘Matt Tebbutt’s Pub Food’ are currently available)
Matt is a regular at food festivals around the U.K and has a seedling You Tube channel.

For fourteen years, Matt and his wife Lisa ran The Foxhunter restaurant in Monmouthshire which won several awards including AA Restaurant of the Year and which specialised in local, seasonal and foraged food.
